Focus and approach

FSR - Communications & Media works closely with IRG and, as part of the European University Institute, with the European Commission. Besides the Institutional endorsement, the FSR can take advantage of a high-level Scientific Committee, established in order to ensure that all School activities will both consistently maintain a direct contact with the present regulatory issues and achieve the highest quality in theoretical research. Moreover, the FSR aims at involving regulated firms and other market players and stakeholders in order to keep a balanced and equilibrated approach to regulatory problems.

FSR - Communications & Media's activities - policy discussions, research and training courses - are focused at a European level and deal with the main cross-country regulatory issues. The FSR wants to tackle all these issues from several interrelated perspectives: from an academic and scientific perspective as well as from a more practical point of view; from a country specific approach as well as from a European and comparative perspective; from public bodies’ point of view as well as from those of regulated firms and stakeholders.

FSR – Communications & Media aims to identify and shape a common regulatory approach across the enlarging Europe, based both upon theoretical economic principles and best practices. Moreover it wants to analyze the major near future challenges for Communications & Media, assessing the regulatory trade-offs and exploring new policy solutions. The FSR – Communications & Media aims at representing a European forum of excellence, where policy makers, regulators, academics, regulated firms and other relevant stakeholders can express their voices and effectively interact.
