European Networking and Training for National Competition Enforcers

 

Training of National Judges in EU Competition Law



The Florence School of Regulation (FSR) at the European University Institute (EUI) welcomes applications from judges of the different European Union (EU) Member States to participate in ENTraNCE 2011, a project co-financed by the Directorate General for Competition of the European Commission.

ENTraNCE is a training course addressed to 27 national judges interested to deepen their knowledge and share experience in EU competition law enforcement.
The requirements to apply are:

  • Working as a judge in a EU Member State Court, in the area of civil law with jurisdiction on competition law cases;
  • Fair knowledge of the English language;
  • Basic computer skills.


ENROLLMENT AND TUITION FEE

  • 31st May 2011: enrollment closes
Tuition Fee: Participation to ENTraNCE 2011 is free of charge. The tuition fees, travel costs and accommodation costs in Florence for the selected participants will be covered by the project.


TRAININING SRUCTURE:

Programme
ENTRANCE


  • 3 days of seminars in Florence (3 - 5 November 2011):
    i.            Introduction to EU competition law
    ii.           Enforcement of competition law in network industries
    iii.          Basic economic principles applicable to the enforcement of competition law
    iv.          Quantification of the damage in cases of private enforcement of the competition law

Lecturers: Prof. Parcu (EUI/FSR), Prof. Amato (EUI); Prof. Wish (King's College - London), Prof. Hancher (Tilburg University/FSR), Prof. Monti (EUI), Prof. De Streel (University of Namur/FSR); Prof. Nicita (University of Siena/FSR)

Online activities through a user friendly platform (September 2011 - June 2012):. The participants will use the platform to compare the national cases of application of the competition law through a guided online forum of discussion and analysis of cases studies

  • Final Workshop in Florence ( 25-26 May 2012): final roundtable to discuss national experiences in the enforcement of the competition law.
