A Target Model for the Internal Gas Market

Florence, 11th March 2011
Villa la Fonte,
Via delle Fontanelle, 10
San Domenico di Fiesole

Programme

The Third Legislative Package on Energy defined a new regulatory and institutional framework for the completion of the Internal Gas Market. It envisages the development of network codes which will contain mandatory rules, directly enforceable in all Member States, on the organisation and operation of the gas networks and markets.

Network codes on different areas will necessarily have to consistent and part of a unified vision for the Internal Gas Market. While for the European electricity sector, a reference (“target”) model is being developed - covering areas such as long-term, day-ahead and intra-day trading, balancing, congestion management – a similar approach for the gas sector has only recently been adopted.

The Workshop aims at identifying and discussing the main features of a suitable reference model for the Internal Gas Market
