Research is devoted to deeper analysis of regulatory issues in the energy, communications & media and transport sectors.
Publications: The FSR is producing its own working paper series on topics of the regulation of the energy, communication & media and transport sectors. The FSR team also contributes to the debate by publishing its research results in scientific journals, books and on policy blogs.
Research Assistants and Jean Monnet Fellowships: Furthermore, FSR gathers junior and senior researchers from all over Europe. Next to the research assistants at the FSR each academic year in-residence fellows (Jean Monnet Fellowships) are expected. Jean Monnet Fellowships of the RSCAS are intended to support post-doctoral research by academics in the early stages of their professional career and are open to candidates who have successfully defended their Ph.D. at the time of the start of the fellowships. The aim is to promote valuable contributions to academic research in the regulatory field.
Studies are designed specifically to enhance understanding of and to explore solutions to regulatory policy issues, and are carried out for European institutions (Commission, Parliament, etc.), regulatory authorities or stakeholders (studies which serve narrow interests are excluded). For example, the DG Energy Think Tank that responds to the European Commission’s evolving needs will produce reports on a semester basis with clear policy recommendations. Other good examples from the FSR Energy area in the first semester of 2010 are the studies “Analysis of Energy Efficiency Actions Related to the Rollout of Smart Meters for Small Consumers” and “Smart Regulation for Smart Grids".
