20 years of railway liberalisation in Europe: key lessons and future prospects
4th ERailTRF (European Rail Transport Regulation Forum)
19 March 2012 San Domenico di Fiesole Florence, Italy
|
 |
Following previous discussion events on rail transport, we are now debating if the logic of liberalization followed by the European Commission fits the sector and whether it can be pursued unchanged or needs reconsideration. The discussions will be centred around following questions:
- What degree of competition has emerged and can realistically be expected in the railway sector?
- Which are the competitors that will realistically exist in Europe in the years to come?
- What are the likely evolutions of the historical operators and what will be their likely roles given the broad public policy constraints?
- Which market structures are likely to emerge in the future?
Keeping to one of FSR's guiding principles, namely stakeholder involvement, this Forum will feature presentations from representatives of the European Commission, Ministries, regulators, operators, international associations of stakeholders and academics.
