Matteo di Castelnuovo Deputy Coordinator for the LdP Economic Area [until February 2011]
Matteo di Castelnuovo was senior researcher at the FSR and deputy coordinator of the Loyola de Palacio Economic Area. He holds a PhD in Energy Economics from Imperial College London, a M.Sc. in Environmental Technology/Environmental Economics Option from Imperial College London and a degree (“Laurea”) in Economics from Bocconi University in Milan. Dr. Di Castelnuovo has over ten years of experience working on electricity markets. Prior to going back to academia in 2004, he has worked for a few years as a strategic consultant in the UK. He lectured at Imperial College London and at London Business School.

His research interests are energy economics, regulation, analysis and modeling of electricity markets, optimization techniques, energy policy and renewable technologies

Gonçalo Coelho
Collaborator, PhD Student at the EUI Law Department
Gonçalo Coelho is a second year Law PhD Candidate at the EUI and his research interests cover Competition, State aid and Regulatory Law, with a focus on network industries. Gonçalo has worked as a Lawyer at the Lisbon office of Cuatrecasas between 2003 and 2006 and as a Legal Officer at the Portuguese Council of Ministers and Ministry for Public Works and Communications between 2006 and 2007. He has also worked as a Lawyer at the Brussels Office of White & Case. At the EUI, his research focuses on the interplay between Competition and Regulatory Law in accessing natural resources. Gonçalo joined the Florence School of Regulation in 2010.
 
Gonçalo obtained his LL.M at the EUI in 2009/2010 and holds a LL.M with a specialty in European Law and Economic Analysis from the College of Europe in Bruges (2007/2008).He studied Law at the University of Lisbon between 1998 and 2003 and holds postgraduate diploma from that University in Competition and Regulation Law (2006/2007) and Law Making and the Science of Legislation (2004).

Claire Gavard
Research Assistant in the Climate Policy Research Unit
Claire Gavard's research interests cover extension of the European carbon market to the electricity sector of developing countries and interaction between carbon market and renewable energies support policies. Claire is currently a Ph.D. student in the Economics Department at Ecole Polytechnique (France). Prior to coming to the EUI, she was a visiting student at the MIT Joint Program on the Science and Policy of Global Change in collaboration with Electricité de France. Her research at the Joint Program focused on the economic analysis of sectoral trading mechanism. Claire also had field experience in India and Brazil and consulting experience in the defense and security industry.
 
Claire holds a Masters degree in Physics from the Ecole Supérieure de Physiques et de Chimie Industrielles (France) and a Masters degree in Innovation Management from the Ecole Polytechnique.
