Michael studied Literature at Boston College and Law at Fordham University in New York City. Since 2004 he has worked on global commercial real estate finance transactions and litigation matters related to asset backed securities. He joined the Loyola de Palacio Chair in July 2011. | | Michelle Hallack | |  | Michelle Hallack is a Jean Monnet Fellow at the Loyola de Palacio Chair (from September 2011). Her research interests cover Natural Gas Market, Network Regulation and Development and Integration of a European Energy Market from below. Michelle studied Economic Sciences at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP) in Brazil, Industrial Economics at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro in Brazil and Economics and Management of Network Industries at the University of Paris Sud XI in France and at the University of Comillas in Spain. At the EUI she has collaborated to the research activities since 2009. Michelle presented here research at numerous international conferences and published academic articles on the topic of Natural Gas Network Regulation and Development. Michelle holds a M.Res from Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, she also holds an European Master (EMIN) and a Diploma in Economics Sciences of the State University of Campinas. | | Haikel Khalfallah | |  | Haikel Khalfallah's research interests cover Regulation of Network Industries and Smart Energy Grid policies. Haikel studied Economic Sciences at the University of Lyon and defended his PhD at the same university on the topic of “Long term generation capacity adequacy in electricity markets” in December 2009. He worked as a Postdoctoral Fellow at Supelec (Ecole Superieur d’Electricité) in Paris. Haikel joined the Florence School of Regulation in September 2010. | | Silvester van Koten | |  | Silvester van Koten is a researcher with a special interest in the economics of energy markets, renewables and regulation. His present research appraises the effectiveness of self-regulating organisations using economics experiments. In his previous research he analysed the effects of incomplete unbundling and of forward markets on competition. Silvester studied psychology at Utrecht University. He defended his PhD in economics at CERGE-EI in Prague on the topic of the Unbundling of electricity networks in the EU and USA, presented his research at numerous international conferences (eg: EEA-ESEM, EARIE, ESA) and published academic articles on the topic of unbundling and corruption. Silvester joined the Florence School of Regulation in September 2010. Silvester holds a Ph.D in Economics from CERGE-EI in Prague. He also holds a MA in Psychology from Utrecht University. | | Emanuela Michetti | |  | Emanuela Michetti's research interests cover Industrial Organisation, Regulation, Competition and Network Industries (in particular Energy and Rail Transport). Emanuela is an economist and studied at the University of Siena. She was also an exchange student at Oxford Brookes University (2002), as well as a research and teaching assistant at the University of Leicester (from 2006 to 2008). Before joining the Florence School of Regulation in May 2010, Emanuela worked for a few years in the economic consulting industry and specialised in the regulation of the energy sector. | | Miguel Vazquez | |  | Miguel Vazquez is a Jean Monnet Fellow at the Loyola de Palacio Chair (from September 2011). His research interests focus on energy market design, risk analysis in energy markets, and modeling of market behaviour. Prior to joining the Florence School of Regulation in September 2011, Miguel was a researcher at the Universidad Pontificia Comillas (Madrid), where he actively published, lectured and participated in a variety of projects for regulators and power companies. His research activity includes several projects on market design in the context of power markets. In addition, he has studied the effects of strategic interaction in forward transactions, with emphasis on the effects of market power opportunities in forward prices. He has also developed different models to analyse oligopolistic energy markets, both for short- and long-term studies. | | Stefano Verde | Research Assistant, Climate Policy Research Unit |  | Stefano Verde’s primary research interests cover climate policy, the economics of climate change and economic modelling. Stefano graduated from Università Tor Vergata (Rome) in 2006 with a first class honours in Economics. The following year he got his MSc in Economics from Trinity College Dublin (TCD), where he stayed to continue his studies as PhD student. The focus of his thesis is on the distributional effects of carbon pricing in Ireland. At TCD, he worked both as research assistant and teaching assistant. He joined the Climate Policy Research Unit in April 2012. Stefano completed his PhD in March 2012. | | Aleksandar Zaklan | |  | Aleksandar Zaklan’s research interests lie in the fields of energy, resource and climate economics, as well as international economics, with a focus on applied econometrics. Aleksandar is currently pursuing a PhD in economics at DIW Berlin/TU Berlin. Previously, he studied economics and international relations in Bochum, Dublin, Bologna and Washington, DC and holds degrees from Trinity College Dublin, Johns Hopkins University and Georgetown University. He has also worked as a research assistant at the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank. Aleksandar’s research has been presented at international conferences and he has published in Energy Economics and in the Review of Finance. Aleksandar is visiting the Florence School of Regulation from September 2011 until December 2011.
